Exciting Puma news! Saint Joseph’s College (SJC) is taking the first
steps to bring academic life back to campus! The SJC staff is currently
designing courses offering certifications for Certified Nursing
Assistants (CNA), Clinical Medical Assistants (CMA), along with
electrocardiogram (EKG) and phlebotomy certificates.
These courses can be taken individually or as part
of the CNA program. In addition, we are planning on offering a CNA+ or
CNA++, which will allow students to earn their CNA certificate alongside
their EKG and/or phlebotomy certification. The first step in this endeavor is finding a
CNA instructor. Once this critical instructor is in place, we will
work together to develop the CNA program and, shortly thereafter, the
other three courses. The goal is to begin all courses this fall! We will be offering day and evening courses to make
this program as accessible as possible for potential students. Our goal,
which is mission based, is to remove barriers for anyone who wants to
improve their life through a better paying job, increase their skill
level, or re-tool themselves for a different employment path. These
industry-recognized and in-demand certifications are the building blocks
for anyone who wants to continue their education in healthcare and earn
an LPN or nursing license.
Careers in the health sciences are currently in high demand,
and—according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics—are expected to increase
121% between 2016 and 2026. Pumas completing this program will do so as
highly-skilled and employable members of the 21st century
workforce.
